The Department of Parks and Wildlife (and its predecessor agencies including the Department of Environment and Conservation) is responsible for preparing and implementing management plans for marine and terrestrial parks and reserves in accordance with the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife has a firm commitment to public consultation and recognises the right of members of the public to have a meaningful role in conserving Western Australia's natural environment to ensure healthy ecosystems, social and economic wellbeing and conservation of biological diversity for present and future generations.
