Riverbank Funding recipients for 2019-20 were announced by the Minister for Environment on 8 August 2019. Please see the Minister's media statement for more information. 

The 2020-21 Riverbank Funding process will open in approximately February 2020.

Funding is available for projects that address the following priorities:

• Protection, enhancement and management of fringing indigenous vegetation and habitat to enhance the ecosystem structure and function of the foreshore.
• Protection and enhancement of riverbanks to mitigate erosion that threatens the environmental, recreational, aesthetic or cultural values of the foreshore.
• Improve enjoyment of the foreshore by addressing the risk to public amenity values, safety, infrastructure and environment.

Project funding is based on partnership arrangements and should include community participation where possible.

Funding process

Riverbank Funding is a competitive process undertaken in two stages:

Stage One

Call for Expressions of Interest (EOIs). Project proposals which offer best value for money in addressing foreshore issues and achieving the desired outcomes for the river system will be selected. Funding for successful projects will be conditional at this stage.

Stage Two

Riverbank officers will work with successful applicants from Stage One to establish collaborative arrangements between parties. It is through the establishment of these arrangements that the final project details, including a project schedule, and detailed budget arrangements will be negotiated.
