Getting students Nearer to Nature

Nearer to Nature Schools provides opportunities for students of all ages to take part in hands-on, experiential learning in the natural environment.

Offering programs from diverse locations in the south-west and covering various ecosystems, Nearer to Nature Schools can provide your class with a unique learning experience.

Nearer to Nature Schools has a range of programs to complement and enhance your classroom teaching.

For teachers and students we offer:

  • excursions or camp activities based at a variety of locations across the south-west
  • incursions at your school
  • educational resources to use in the classroom
  • professional learning for educators.

Outcomes of Nearer to Nature Schools programs support the Parks and Wildlife’s objective to ensure that the nature of Western Australia is protected and conserved, for its intrinsic values and to enrich people’s lives.

  • For students from Early Childhood to Late Adolescence
  • Applicable to all Australian Curriculum Learning Areas with a focus on
    • Geography
    • Science
  • Address the cross-curriculum priorities
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture
    • Sustainability

Senior programs also fulfil WACE curriculum outcomes, in particular for Geograhy and Biology
