COVID-19: Nearer to Nature has a COVID-19 Safety Plan covering a range of measures including a contact register, mask wearing and physical distancing where required, and cleaning. In addition, most activities are conducted out-of-doors and our staff are all up-to-date with current vaccination requirements.
Nearer to Nature excursions are available and schools can also book incursions dependant on their school policies. We continue to offer our usual range of school holiday activities.
We will respond to State Government directives and health advice, and adapt the measures we have in place to provide COVID-safe venues. We will also work with teachers to meet school requirements, and change bookings if needed, to ensure students can benefit from hands-on learning in the environment.

The Centres have an Emergency Response and Fire Evacuation Plan. Our Nearer to Nature Officers, in collaboration with other delegated departmental staff are responsible for implementing the plan. In the event that an evacuation is required all school staff, students and assistants must take directions from our Nearer to Nature Officers. They can be recognised by their uniform.
All Nearer to Nature officers carry either a hand-held VHF radio or a mobile phone for emergency contact.
The Nearer to Nature Coordinators of the Centres have records of when and where all activities are taking place. Student and adult numbers are recorded at the Centre prior to departure for activities in the forest.
Excursions, unless otherwise indicated, run for four hours (from 10am to 2pm) including breaks for morning tea and lunch.
